Knobbed Cylinder Blocks - Block 1

Rs. 2,299.00

The Knobbed Cylinder Blocks are a foundational Montessori material designed to enhance a child's sensory and cognitive development. This educational set includes 40 precisely crafted wooden cylinders and 4 corresponding wooden blocks. Made from natural beech wood and coated with non-toxic, water-based paints, each cylinder varies in height and diameter to introduce children to the concepts of size, shape, and spatial relationships. The knobs on each cylinder are ergonomically designed to resemble pencil grips, aiding in the development of the pincer grip essential for writing. The cylinder blocks are ideal for early childhood environments, supporting skills that are crucial for both mathematics and fine motor development.

The Knobbed Cylinder Blocks provide a rich, hands-on learning experience that builds foundational skills in a fun and engaging way. Integrating these blocks into playtime will support your child's development across multiple domains.

Block 1 – The cylinders vary along 2 dimensions where the diameter changes from 5.5 cm to 1 cm and the height remains constant at 5.5 cm.

Block 2 – The cylinders vary along 3 dimensions where the diameter increases from 1 cm to 5.5 cm and correspondingly the height too varies from 1 cm to 5.5 cm.

Block 3 – The cylinders vary in 3 dimensions where the diameter decreases from 5.5 cm to 1 cm and the corresponding height increases from 1 cm to 5.5 cm.

Block 4 – The cylinders vary along 2 dimensions where the diameter is constant at 2.5 cm and the height varies from 1 cm to 5.5. cm

1. Sensory Development: By handling the cylinders and fitting them into their respective slots, children engage their sense of touch and sight, learning to differentiate between various sizes and shapes.

2. Spatial Awareness: The varying dimensions of the cylinders and their corresponding blocks help children understand how objects can differ in two and three dimensions. This enhances their ability to visualize and comprehend spatial relationships.

3. Fine Motor Skills: The design of the knobs encourages the development of the pincer grip, which is crucial for grasping and manipulating small objects. This skill is directly transferable to writing and other fine motor tasks.

4. Mathematical Concepts: The blocks introduce fundamental mathematical ideas such as measurement, comparison, and ordering. Children learn to recognize and classify objects based on their dimensions.

5. Hand-Eye Coordination: Placing the cylinders into the correct slots requires precise hand-eye coordination, which is essential for many everyday activities and academic skills.

6.Preparation for Writing: The cylinder blocks help prepare children for writing by strengthening their grip and control over small objects, which contributes to improved pencil handling and writing skills.

1. Introduction to the Blocks: Start by introducing your child to the four blocks and the cylinders. Explain that each block has specific cylinders that fit into it.

2. Demonstrate the Activity: Show your child how to pick up a cylinder by using the knob and align it with one of the holes on the block. Emphasize the importance of matching the cylinder with the correct hole based on size.

3. Encourage Exploration: Allow your child to explore the cylinders and blocks on their own. Encourage them to experiment with fitting different cylinders into the blocks, observing how the sizes and shapes interact.

4. Guide the Sorting: As your child becomes more familiar with the blocks, guide them to sort the cylinders by size or dimension. For example, have them place all cylinders with the same diameter or height into one block.

5. Challenge with Variations: For a more advanced challenge, mix cylinders from different blocks and ask your child to match each cylinder to its corresponding block. This will enhance their understanding of dimensional differences.

6. Discuss Observations: Engage your child in a discussion about what they notice as they play. Ask questions like, “How is this cylinder different from the others?” or “Which cylinder is the tallest?”

7.Incorporate into Daily Routine: Use the cylinder blocks to introduce related concepts in everyday activities. For example, compare the sizes of objects around the house or during outdoor play.
